The #6 KWCA ranked El Dorado Wildcats wrestling team stayed undefeated in dual matches defeating visiting Mulvane easily 48-18.

In their first match back from the Christmas break, El Dorado coach Wes Reynolds could not have hoped for any better of a performance.

“I did not expect it to be as good as it was. I was pushing them real hard in practice over the break with all the kids that showed up, and the ones that were gone I was not sure what we were going to get tonigh. I was absolutely satisfied with our effort tonight,” said Reynolds.

The Wildcats stormed out to a 12-0 lead with Jake Leckliter and Reno Hughey needing a combined 1:44 to win by pin in each of their matches.

Mulvane earned a tough three points in the next match as Blake Cusick defeated Daniel Thomas in an 11-9 decision.

El Dorado bounced back with a 9-1 decesion victory from #2 ranked Bryce Morgan over Elijah White to boost the Wildcats advantage to 16-3.

Kyle Macy got a big 8-4 decision victory over #6 ranked Connor Penka, and Cole Reinhardt followed with a 6-4 decision getting the win in the final seconds of the match to put El Dorado on top 22-3.

#1 ranked Austin Hughey went through his opponent Josh Rodriguez for 15-0 tech fall victory and Gage Armstrong followed with an 18-3 tech fall victory over Joe Targos to put the Wildcats in a commanding 32-3 lead.

El Dorado’s Caleb Wallsmith won by major decision 13-4 over Chase Miller before the Wildcats surrendered 12 points due to open weight classes in the next two matches.

Mulvane earned its second victory when Tanner Cusick defeated Marcus Walker in an 8-5 decision. El Dorado still led at 36-18.

El Dorado’s Manny Martinez won by fall over Riley Rahe and Jacobb Burnett won by fall over David Calisay to close out the Wildcats big night at 48-18.

“This is what you get when hard work pays off and a win like this feels really good especially for what we are trying to accomplish this year,” said Reynolds.

The Wildcats will face some stiff competition this weekend when they participate in the Derby Invitational.

“This is a new year. Hopefully we can keep it rolling from what we have now and keep getting better toward the end of February,” said Reynolds.
