John Dennis Richardson, 71, of Wichita, was born at a very early age in Wichita to Eli V. and Faye E. Jackson Richardson at 5:58 a.m. on Aug. 19, 1941. He grew progressively older until he stopped on Sept. 14, 2011, at the age of 70. He resumed life one week later after quadruple by-pass surgery. Graduating from WHS East in 1959, he received both Bachelor and Master degrees from Wichita State University. Taking a cut in pay, he left Farha Brothers Grocery to become a middle-level social studies teacher for the Wichita Public Schools, retiring in 2001. A facilitator for the teaching of geography at the University of Colorado in Boulder, he became interested in environmental studies and became a facilitator for Project Learning Tree, Wild and Aquatic. In retirement, he pursued his interest in local history becoming a docent for the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum, the Allen-Lambe House Museum and the Historic Trolley Tours. A Fellow of the National Association of Watch and Collecters, he was one of five trained to maintain the tower clock from 1985 until 2010. He also served as a volunteer and Board member at the Great Plains Nature Center. John was preceded in death by his parents, Eli v. and Faye Edna Richardson; brother, Wallace Darrel; and his buddy, Brenda, to whom he was happily married for six of 38 years. Survivors include his brother, Richard (Sandi) Richardson and fiancé, Gyla. John was a new member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2258 Marigold, where Memorial Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday.
