For the past several years, El Dorado State Park Manager Seth Turner has wanted to add an archery range to the park.
Thanks to a federal grant, construction on a range near the Teter Nature Trail parking lot began about three weeks ago.
“It’s actually a project we’ve been trying to get for three or four years,” said Turner. “There are a couple of other parks that have already done that. We were next on the list.”
The range will include an adult area and a children’s area.
“It will have an adult side with targets five yards out to 50 yards,” said Turner. “There will be eight targets between five and 50 yards. There will also be three from an elevated stance for 11 total on the adult side.”
The children’s area will have three targets.
“We plan to have it open for sure by the middle of March or the first of April,” said Turner.
“All that will be required will be a park permit, although people are welcome to make donations for maintenance.”
