  • Jimmie Kenneth Clawson, 86, of Augusta, passed away Wednesday, Jan.2, 2013.
Services will be held at a later date with burial at Sunnyside Cemetery, Sun City, Kan.
Born Jan. 13th 1926 on the family homestead in Sun City, Kan., Jimmie was the youngest of three sons born to Robert S. & Hattie (Winnup) Clawson. After graduating Sun City High School in 1943, Jim enlisted in the Naval Air Corp and spent two years flying missions in the South Pacific during WWll. On March 1, 1947 he married Wilma Lee Newport of Sun City. Jim and Wilma moved to Augusta and opened their first business, Clawson Floor Covering in 1952. In the truest sense of entrepreneurism they ventured across Kansas, Oklahoma, California and Arizona owning and operating businesses that ranged from Village Decorative, Augusta; Clawson Carpets in Manhattan and Ft. Riley, Kan.; Marion Country Inn, Marion, Kan.; Golden Pin Lanes, Sedan, Kan. Returning "home" to Augusta in 2007, they truly retired.
A cowboy at heart, Jim loved horses, roping and rodeos, he was a founding member of the Augusta Saddle Club in the mid 50's. Jim was also active in the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and Elks Club and a member of First Christian Church of Augusta.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Robert S. Clawson Jr. and Marion "Pat" Clawson; and his wife of 64 years, Wilma in 2010.
He is survived by: daughter, Rev. Penny Clawson Goldberg of El Dorado; son, Robert S. Clawson III (Sandy) of Sedan; four grandchildren, Jessica Goldberg Buckley (Brent) of El Dorado, Amy Goldberg of Albuquerque, NM, Kyle Clawson and Braden Clawson, both of Sedan; three great-grand sons; Alex, Nick, and Zack Buckley of El Dorado; three sisters-in-law, Lucile Snider (Merle) of Augusta, Virginia Garten (Fred) of Norwich, Barbara Thornton-Jackson (Niles); and a brother-in-law, Ed Newport of Ponca City, Okla.
Memorials may be made to Headley Funeral Chapel.
