  • Alan Dean Van Fleet, 65, LeRoy, died on Dec. 20, 2012, at the Life Care Center in Burlington, Kan.
    Alan was born to Melvin and Lucy Jarvis Van Fleet on Feb. 13, 1947, at Roanoke Rapids, N. C.
    He married Sandy Skaggs, in April of 1994. They were later divorced.
    He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in LeRoy, Kan. During his life he had worked in Construction, as a cashier, and at the Coffey County Recycling Center for over 10 years.
    He had also worked at the Coffey County Jail and had been a member of the Sheriff Reserve. He graduated from Junction City High School in 1966, then studied Accounting at Brown Mackey College in Salina, and also attended Emporia State University.
    Alan had volunteered for Coffey County Transportation in the late 80s and early 90s. He had also volunteered for the Resource Center for Independent Living, for which he had learned sign language.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Marcia.
    Alan is survived by his son, Dakota Van Fleet, of El Dorado, three step children, Casey Womelsdorf, of Missouri, Lacey Womelsdorf, of Topeka, and Tacey Womelsdorf, of Chanute, three brothers, Jerry Van Fleet and his wife Terri, of Harker Heights, Texas, Terry Van Fleet, of Houston, Texas, and Doug Van Fleet and his wife Jan, of Wichita, three sisters, Karen Farthing and her husband Ronnie, of El Dorado, Victoria Kujala and her husband Bryan, of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Sandy Pratt, of Tucson, Ariz., numerous nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
    Alan was cremated. The family will hold memorial graveside services at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in El Dorado, with Pastor Charlie Patterson officiating.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the A.L.S. Foundation or the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
