  • Sonja L. Walker passed away Saturday, Dec. 22 at Lakepoint Nursing Home.

  • Sonja L. Walker passed away Saturday, Dec. 22 at Lakepoint Nursing Home. Celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Kirby Morris Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
    She was born on June 25, 1939 in Avoca, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Ella (Scott) Christensen, Sr. Her family moved to El Dorado when she was a toddler. Sonja attended school in El Dorado, graduating from El Dorado High School in 1957. On Dec. 16, 1968 in Wichita, Sonja was married to Billy B. Walker; he preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1999. Sonja was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing, gardening and Bingo, she was very social and everyone loved her.
    Sonja is survived by a son, Chris Haines of Norton, Kan.; step-sons, Billy Walker, Jr. of Wichita and Chuck (Sheryl) Walker of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughters, Karyn Haines of Wichita, Sherry (Zack) Alabassi of Littleton, Colo., and Kathy (Dan) Haines Cullinane of Wichita; step daughter, Teri (Terry) Taylor of Larned, Kan.; brother, Pete (Toy) Christensen, Jr. of Wichita; sisters, Bonnie Hull of Nebraska, Berniece (Sam) Hamilton of Houston, Texas, and Carolyn Barker of El Dorado; 13 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She is preceded by her husband Billy, parents, one sister Peggy, a brother Jim and her daughter Carla. A memorial has been established with Heritage House Residence Association.
