Modern Family star Ariel Winter will remain under the care of her older sister, Shanelle Gray, pending a hearing in March, People reports.

Lawyers for Ariel's mother, Chrisoula Workman, Gray and Winter made an agreement allowing Winter to stay with her sister, and for her dad, Glenn Workman, to serve as temporary guardian of Winter's estate. "I believe things are going to get better. I'm thrilled we're taking that first step," Judge Michael Levanas said in open court, according to People.

Winter, 14, has been under the guardianship of her older sister since early November, when she alleged her mother was physically and emotionally abusing her and she was removed from her mother's house. Chrisoula then alleged Winter had attacked her. A November report by the Department of Children and Family Services found evidence of emotional abuse inflicted upon Winter by her mother.

"It looks like the court is going to order therapy and counseling to help keep us together as a family," Ariel's older brother, Jimmy Workman, told reporters after the hearing. "Everything's holding off and everyone's going to counseling."

Jimmy added that Winter and Gray are not on speaking terms with him or his mother, but he remained confident that Winter would eventually return home. "My mother is a loving parent who's done everything for her children," he said. "We want our younger sister to come home with our parents."

Anita Gumm, an attorney for Winter's mother, added: "It looks like everything will work out. We're happy for the family."
