If you believe in rankings, especially of the basketball type, then some good news came out today from the Kansas Basketball Association, listing the St. John-Hudson boys as the #1 ranked 1A (Div. I) team in the State.

The Tigers, coached by head coach Clint Kinnamon so far have a 4-0 record, defeating Skyline 88-19, Ellinwood 55-26, Hoisington 63-45 and league rival Macksville 69-53.

And don't forget the Lady Tigers coached by head coach Danny Smith. They too are doing well in basketball land, ranked #5 in the latest poll, moving up steadily in the rankings for the past two weeks. The Tigers have wins against Skyline 52-30, Ellinwood 40-23, Hoisington 51-21 and Spearville 44-18.

Tonight's games at Claflin should provide some good entertainment and perhaps some nail-biting when the Tigers meet up against the Central Plains Oilers.

Both Oiler teams will provide strong competion for the Tigers, perhaps the toughest they've come up against this young season.

The Central Plains boys have gone 3-1 so far, one a victory against Hoisington.

The #5 in 2A Central Plains Lady's are undefeated going 4-0 and will give the Lady Tigers all they want and more. And the word has gotten out that the Oiler gals strongly feel that this is the year they knock off St. John. That's why its so important that all of you Tigers fans load up you cars and vans and make that 45 mile journey to Claflin and "Support your Tigers". You can almost bet that the stands will be full at game time, so get there early.

The Hutchinson News recently accounced that St. John's Jamie Waters and Morgan Osborne have made the News All-Area Volleyball Teams. The All-Area players are selected from the News circulation area, mainly from central Kansas, southern Kansas and all of Southwestern kansas.

Waters, one of the top setters in 1A and 2A was chosen to the first team All-Area, while Osborne was at the top of the second team All-Area's listing. Osborne, an outside hitter was not only proficient at the net, she was also known for her defense in the back court.

Coach for the Lady Tigers Volleyball team was head coach Trish Wade.
