  • Garfield Elementary students of Renissa Riley and Renee Powers are enjoying special guest readers as part of "Twelve Days of Reading."
Each day a surprise reader shares their favorite Christmas story with the students.
On the first day, Principal Kim Clark read "Red Headed Robbie's Christmas Story." On the second day, Brenda Davis shared "Snowmen at Christmas," and on the third day, Superintendent John Black read "Welcome Comfort." Amanda Richmond read "You are Special" on the fourth day and on the fifth day, Assistant Superintendent Holly Francis read "The Christmas Extravaganza."
The program will continue with guest paras, janitors, and other teachers reading to the students.
Renissa Riley explained that this is the second year for the program and the students love the idea. A photo of each guest reader and their book is taken and posted in the hallway. The students also sing to the tune of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" the "Twelve Days of Reading " song each time when the reader finishes.
