  • Work is nearing completion on the east side of the street at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Main Street.
“We are anticipating some colder weather next week, so we may be starting a shift of traffic to open up all of the lanes on the east side of Main and opening up Sixth Avenue there and the truck route,” said Scott Rickard, assistant city engineer.
As of Monday, there were two remaining driveways left to pour, as well as a portion of the sidewalk to complete.
Rickard said they would have some temporary asphalt down where they widened a section of the street so they could open it back up to traffic. Then in the spring they will begin the mill and overlay to put down the new asphalt.
It is expected the west side of the street will go quicker than the east side.
“The majority of the east side was putting in the storm sewer,” Rickard said. “The west side is really just realigning that curb and some storm sewer tie-ins.”
He said people also can look for some traffic signals to start going up in the next few weeks as well.
“I think everyone will be very pleased with the finished product,” Rickard said.
He also thanked the drivers for their attentiveness in the area.
“We really haven’t seen too many accidents there,” he said.
