  • Augusta's 8th-grade boys A team thought it had completed a miraculous comeback.
Coach A.J. Bodyk said that the Bluejays were down by nine with about 4:30 left in regulation. But Augusta rallied to take a three-point lead with three seconds left on the clock.
That's when Haysville sank a 40-foot heave that banked in to tie the game and send it to overtime.
The Bluejays still commanded the game, though, and outscored Haysville 11-2 in the overtime period to win 61-52 Monday at home.
Augusta had a big lead in the first half. The Bluejays led 11-6 after the first quarter and 26-18 at halftime. But Haysville took control in the second half with a 17-7 third quarter.
Dallin Marlnee led the Bluejays' charge with 19 points. Kade Trebbe had 13 points and both Jake Lanier and Jake Becker added 11 points. Raef Hilt scored four and Jayden Reynolds had three.
Bodyk said that the Bluejays didn't help themselves by missing 20 of 37 free throws in the game.
The 8th-grade B team used a strong second half on defense to pull away for a 36-24 win. Trey Wesbrooks led the team with 11 points and Daelen Shupe had eight. Garrett Tipton and Nolan Riley both added four. Gavin Hiser, Josh Reichardt and Collin Eldringhoff all had two apiece.
In 7th-grade action, the Bluejays' A team clobbered Haysville 41-17. Jonny Clausing led the charge with 15 points. Noah Johnson scored 14, Clay Wesbrooks and Grady Tole both added five and Blake Bevan chipped in with two.
The 7th-grade B team also won big by a score of 44-14, with 10 players scoring for the Bluejays.
Corbin Collier led the team with 11 points. Luke Price and Jordan Bodyk both had seven. Dylan Stevenson added five. Andrew Brautman, Shea Dennet, Seth McGuire, Colton Barnett, Grady Tole and Tyler Johnson all had two points.
