Near tragedy, bike and car. Things don’t always turn out as well.
Last spring the Augusta Lions Club, along with American Legion and Auxiliary, Augusta Gazette, several community businesses, doctors and insurance companies, Augusta Downtown, Inc., City of Augusta, Augusta Safety Dept., and two bicycle clubs conducted a Bicycle Safety Clinic. Flyers were posted and given out to Augusta Schools, Augusta Public Library and community businesses. Programs were presented at School PTO’s.
There were more than 700 students in the 8 to 12 year age, who received letters to their parents and flyers posted over town.
Churches included the event in their bulletins and there was a total of 29 children participating in the Bicycle Safety Clinic, which was held downtown following the Bugs Bunny Club. They received a free bicycle helmet for just participating.
Where were the parents and children who did not participate in the safety Clinic?
The Augusta Lions Club will again sponsor the Bicycle Safety Clinic in April this spring.
More information will follow. Yes, the Augusta schools teach and stress bicycle safety.

Chairman of Augusta Bicycle Safety Clinic
