The weekend police report listed a large number of burglaries and vandalisms, but according to Augusta Safety Department Chief Tyler Brewer, it’s not the holiday season that has caused the increase in crime, but the unseasonable warm weather.
Brewer also wants to remind citizens to lock their cars and to refrain from keeping anything of value in their vehicles. He also stressed the importance of keeping garage doors closed and locked at night.
“These are crimes of opportunity and it’s important to reduce the opportunity. These types of crimes are why we emphasize enforcing curfew violations and do foot patrols in neighborhoods and the downtown area,” Brewer advised.
