  • Last season the Wildcats finished 8-13 overall and were 2-8 in league.
The Wildcats were one and done in the playoffs last season falling at Mulvane in the first round of the sub-state playoffs.
Head Coach Gary Melcher returns for his 16th season at the helm with a record of 140-169 at El Dorado.
The Wildcats boys basketball team enters into the 2012-13 season returning 6 lettermen from last year’s squad.
With the loss of three seniors in starters Alex Brown and Michael Riedl and Jared Erpelding from the bench, the Wildcats will depend on strong junior class this season.
“We lost three seniors to graduation and return four players with starting experience, along with two additional lettermen,” said head coach Gary Melcher.
The Wildcats have three proven offensive threats in Travis House, Trevor Crain and Aaron Riffel.
House a 6’ 1” junior guard averaged 12.7 ppg along with 3.2 rpg earning AVCTL Div. III first team honors.
Crain a 6’ 2” senior forward scored 9.3 ppg and had 4.7 rpg earning Div. III Honorable Mention.
Riffel a 5’ 11” senior guard averaged 7.8 ppg and 3.1 apg earning Div. III Honorable Mention as well.
El Dorado will count on its paint presence in big men Jared Haury a 6’ 5” junior forward and Collin Just a 6’ 3” senior forward.
Haury and Just need to have solid seasons in both ends of the court for the Wildcats to be successful.
The big question mark for the Wildcats will be in their depth coming off the bench.
“Our depth will be provided by players with limited, if any, varsity experience, which we needed to identify prior to the Christmas break,” said Melcher.
Sam Haines, Isaac Johnson, Dylan McAdoo, Connor Scanlon and John Scott will most likely provide valuable minutes off the bench.
El Dorado opens the season on the road in Chapman next Tuesday in the Dickinson County tournament.
Wildcats first home action is against Buhler on December 11.
“We hope to compete at a more consistent level than last year,” said Melcher.
