  • The Augusta City Council didn’t have to look far to find a replacement for Ward One City Councilor Holly Harper who resigned her position on Nov. 5.
Mike Martin is a third generation Augustan who has been a financial advisor for 30 years.
Martin has had an office in downtown Augusta for 10 years. He is a partner with Matt Malone, who also serves on the city council from Ward Four.
The other candidate who was considered for Harper’s position was Jason Lowery. Harper had suggested Lowery in her letter of resignation.
Councilor Mike Wallace made the motion to select Martin. Mike Huddleston seconded the motion which passed 5-2 with Ron Reavis and Mike Rawlings voting against.
Councilor Matt Childers asked Malone if he and Martin’s business partnership would create any issues for the council.
“I don’t think that what we do as partners in business will have any impact on what we decide for the city,” Malone said.
Martin will be sworn in at the next council meeting on Dec. 4.
