  • Butler Community College art instructor John Oehm is always looking for ways to help his students learn. As curator of the college’s Erman B. White Gallery of Art, he decided it would be beneficial to bring in artwork from students a little farther along in their college careers.
“When I was organizing shows last year, I thought it might be good for our students to see more advanced undergraduate and graduate student work,” said Oehm.
He asked a Wichita State University art professor to select students to put together a show.
“He put a couple of grad students in charge. They selected other grad and upper division students,” said Oehm. “There are seniors, recent graduates and grad students.”
The “Realities and Reflections” exhibit opened yesterday and will be on display at the E.B. White Gallery until Dec. 7. A reception will be held on Nov. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Sculptures, drawings and paintings by 15 artists comprise the show.
“It’s a pretty diverse body of work,” said Oehm. “I think the students will enjoy a number of pieces in the show. It is interesting and compelling.”
The E.B. White Gallery, located in the Fine Arts Building, is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.
