  • Emery W. Bever, 89, passed away Nov. 5, 2012 at his home in Towanda. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Towanda United Methodist Church. The Masonic service will be held at Towanda cemetery.
    He was born Oct. 13, 1923 in Waneta, Kan., the son of Lewis and Leona (Bell) Bever. He graduated from Cedar Vale High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1948 and served his country for three years. He was united in marriage to Winifred Dorene on May 10, 1952 in Cedar Vale, Kan. She passed away Jan. 6, 2011. Emery was a member of the lions club and the Mason’s. He was an avid pool player and loved to garden. He was a member of the Towanda United Methodist Church. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
    Survivors include: sons, John and wife Marcia of Wichita, and Charles and wife Malinda of League City, Texas; daughter, Jeannette and husband Robert Thompson of Topeka; brother, Lester Bever of McPherson; sister, Alice Sinclair of Cedar Vale; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph.
