  • Augusta’s boys soccer team gave out its season-ending awards as voted on by the team last week. Corbin Murray and Kyler Steinkamp were named the team co-MVPs. Murray, who arguably is the most skilled player on the team, often was the leader on the fielder, guiding the offense and scoring whenever possible. Steinkamp was one of the fastest players every time he stepped on the field, and he scored and was a key offensive player for the Orioles. Mason Hiser was voted the best offensive player. Hiser pulled a hat trick this season and was one of the team’s best passers; he frequently would set up teammates with cross passes for assists. Nate Kroeker earned the Best Defensive Player team award. Kroeker brought a physicality presence to the back row and improve every game in stopping opposing team’s onrush. Patrick White and Caleb Strack, both of whom became critical defenders in the back as the season progressed, earned the team’s Most Improved Player award. Michael Albright earned the 110 Percent award, given to the player with the most hustle. Albright manned the midfield, and worked a lot on both ends of the field. Kesten Trebbe and Brandon Denoncourt earned the team’s Unsung Hero award. Trebbe, a senior who played his first year of varsity this season, did a lot of the dirty work on the back half of the field, particularly to help on defense. Denoncourt, a freshman, was a sneaky good passer and ball handler who helped set up the offense. Be on the lookout in the Gazette for the release of All-League award winners.
