The veterans memorial in front of the Butler County Courthouse is getting some names added to the sidewalk this week.
Howard Cool, who has been involved with the memorial from the beginning, was working to place the new group of names earlier this week.
“It’s an ongoing thing,” he said.
They have a standing request of names of veterans or veterans’ wives and when they get enough to fill an area, they put them in.
“It just shows people are interest in recalling,” Cool said.
Many of the first names were veterans from World War II, but he said now they are getting names of veterans in wars since then.
“Veterans of any branch of service can be in it,” he said.
The memorial project was strictly a veterans project, with money raised locally to put it up. It took the better part of two years to finish putting the memorial in.
His goal was to get the newest addition finished by Veterans Day.
At the present time, they are not soliciting for additional names on bricks. In the future, they may open that up again.
