Ronald Larry Bowman, 72, caring and loving husband, father and grandpa passed away, Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at his residence. Ron was born on May 17, 1940, to William Greer and Hazel Francis (Spraggins) Bowman in Big Piney, Mo. Ron was married to Shirley May Wear on Sept. 25, 1960, in Overland Park. He retired in 1979 from the United States Army as a Master Sergeant E-8 after 21 years. Ron also owned and operated his own landscape business for 15 years. He never met a stranger and would usually end up joking with them. He loved camping, fishing, family dinners and a big garden. Ron is survived by his son and his wife, Bill and Christie Bowman; daughters and their husbands, Cindy and David Schoffstall and Beverly and Kevin Pennington, all of El Dorado; brothers, Alan (Shirley) Bowman of Augusta, Myron Bowman of Newkirk, Okla.; sister, Delores (Daniel) Frantz of Durham, Kan.; grandchildren, Ryan (Amanda) Pennington, Jacob Schoffstall, James Pennington, Abigail Schoffstall and Brayden Bowman; and great-granddaughter, Natalie Pennington. He is preceded in death by his parents; spouse, Shirley Bowman of 50 years; grandson, Landen Bowman; brother, Robert Bowman; and sisters, Phyllis Kidd and Melva Cavanaugh. Viewing will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, with visitation to follow with family greeting friends from 5-7. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, all in the Dunsford Funeral Home Chapel. Procession to follow for interment in Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta. A memorial has been established with the Disabled American Veterans, 3011 South George Washington Blvd., Wichita, KS 67216, or in care of the funeral home.
