  • Mothers now have a new support system in the community.
A new group, the Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS), will begin meeting Oct. 23.
"We have a group of moms with young kids at First United Methodist Church, and we were just interested in forming a group of moms to discuss some topics that might be important to moms with younger kids," said Lauren Davis, who is helping organize the group. "We're hoping to also reach some moms outside of the church."
They plan to meet monthly, although that may change based on interest, at the First United Methodist Church, 421 W. Central.
The first meeting, which will be held at 6 p.m., will be on the topic of buildings a mom's friendship with other moms and will include a video.
MOPS is a Christian-based, nondenominational and internationally organized group.
The meetings will include snacks, a short lesson or guest speaker, discussion, and a creative activity. All mothers with children ages birth to kindergarten are invited.
Child care will be provided for children through age 5. The first meeting is free.
Yearly membership dues of $25 will include a year subscription to MOMSense Magazine and other benefits.
Partial or full scholarships may be available upon request.
Interested moms are asked to RSVP with their information and child’s information to laurenhdavis@hotmail.com.
