  • Augusta’s freshman volleyball team proved it was the best team on the court with ease Thursday at the Orioles’ home quad. The Orioles started with a convincing win against Wellington. The Orioles jumped out to a 9-3 lead, but Wellington fought to cut it to 11-9. That’s when Carley Phillips and Clarice Dalziel hit back-to-back kills to spark a 10-0 runt to take control of Set 1. Augusta fell behind 5-1 early in Set 2 Phillips and Dalziel scored back-to-back points again to start another run. Riley Zerr scored a kill and Rylee Drouillard served an ace during 7-0 spurt. Sydney Williams had an ace and Phillips went way up for a final kill to close the match 25-12, 25-10. Phillips finished with seven kills and three aces. Bailey Carr had 11 assists, a block and an ace. Zerr had three kills, Drouillard had three aces and McKenzie Scott had two blocks in the match.
