The Butler Community College Music Department will present its first concert of the 2012-13 school year.
It is called “Why We Sing!” and features Butler Chamber Singers with their new faculty member Henry Waters, the Butler Headliners under the direction of Valerie Lippoldt Mack, the Butler Ladies under the direction of Nancy Wesche, and the newly formed vocal ensemble “Butler A Capella” under the direction of Matt Udland.
“The concert will be 75 minutes of all great music,” Lippoldt Mack said. “Come see why we should all be singing!”
It will include such songs as “Sing Me to Heaven,” “Glad You Came,” “My Guy,” “Sing A Song” and “Coney Island,” among others.
The song “Why We Sing,” was written by Greg Gilpin and dedicated to his “friends and family at the Butler Showchoir Showcase” after spending years making music at the camp.
Included in the concert program are several student responses to the question why we sing.
The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with a 3 p.m. performance Saturday.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students. For tickets, call the box office at 322-3262 from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
