  • 7th-grade team goes for perfect season

  • The 7th-grade football team will have a chance to pull off a perfect season tomorrow when it visits Valley Center. The Bluejays are 5-0 heading into their final game of the season.
    The Bluejays remained undefeated with a 42-0 beatdown of Ark City last week. Blake Bevan ran for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Corbin Collier had 72 yards and a score. Augusta outrushed Ark City 181-21. Jonny Clausing recovered a fumble for a touchdown in the first quarter. Noah Johnson caught the Bluejays' only reception for a six-yard score.
    The Bluejays led 30-0 after one quarter.

    8th-graders get first win
    Augusta's 8th-grade football team finally got rid of the goose egg in the win column. The Bluejays won a back-and-forth contest with Ark City for a 22-20 victory.
    Ark City scored a touchdown to pull within two points, but the Bluejays made a defensive stand on the conversion to seal that game.
    Augusta finished with 221 rushing yards. Raef Hilt led the charge with 153 yards on just 13 carries. Dallin Marlnee added 51 yards and scored three touchdowns of one, six and 12 yards out.
    Ark Cit scored the opening touchdown for an 8-0 lead, but Augusta scored twice for a 14-8 halftime lead. Ark City broke off an 81-yard touchdown run to tie the game 14-14. Augusta regained the lead on the final play of the third before Ark City came up short in the fourth.
