  • The El Dorado Wildcats hosted their home invitational at Bluestem Point at El Dorado Lake.
It was quite cool at the course and the temperature was in the 40s. Even though the wind was fairly light, it still felt chilly coming off the lake.
“I think that the cool temperatures helped our runners hold an aggressive pace that allowed them to run at or near a PR pace,” said El Dorado coach David Herrs.
Ten of the 12 El Dorado runners who competed in the meet set new PRs.
The other two were within 10 seconds of doing so.
“I can’t ask for better results. We are very proud of how we ran today. We always go over the results on the bus ride on the way home from meets; there was a lot of clapping and congratulating going on,” said Herrs.
The El Dorado meet has become tough, and in spite of the Wildcat PRs, they were unable to score very well in the team standings.
In both varsity races, the course record was broken.
On the girls side the record held by El Dorado’s Molly Milbourn set in 2010 at 14:21.31 was broken by Kaelyn Balch of Bishop Carroll with a time of 14:11.50.
For the boys, the record held by Adam Porter of McPherson set in 2009 with a time of 15:38.91 was broken by Brandon Lewis of Derby with a time of 15:37.97.
The Wildcats have now entered their postseason. El Dorado competes at the league meet this Thursday in Rose Hill.
El Dorado will compete at Regionals on Oct. 20 at Lake Afton as Wichita-Bishop Carroll hosts the meet.
The girls race begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by the boys at 12:30 p.m.
The teams competing at regionals are as follows: Altamont-Labette County, Augusta, Baxter Springs, Clearwater, Columbus, El Dorado, Independence, Mulvane, Parsons, Rose Hill, Towanda-Circle, Wellington, Wichita-Collegiate, Wichita-Trinity Academy, Winfield
