Jeremy Tucker was injured in a motorcross accident on June 22 at Mount Carroll, Ill. He wrecked during the practice for that event. He was taken to the hospital in Rockford, Ill., where he was in a coma for three weeks. He had suffered a traumatic brain injury and broke his left femur. Jeremy remained in that hospital for a month then was transferred to the Chicago Institute of Rehabilitation.

“He basically had to learn everything from the beginning again – walking, talking, eating,” said his wife Toni. “It was having to tell him this is how you chew, this is how you swallow.”

Toni said he “blew them out of the water as far as their predictions at rehab.”

Jeremy has since returned to work this past week, being on light duty at HollyFrontier Refinery. He also is still doing therapy twice a week in Wichita.

“He’s still got a ways to go,” Toni said. “He is still working on motor skills.

“He has a lot of determination and a positive attitude. That has just always been who he is and it was nice that wasn’t lost with his injury.”

She said this fundraiser will help with medical expenses and traveling back and forth to rehab.

“It just seems like a lot of people have pulled together and are saying a lot of prayers,” Toni said.

His classmates also have done a lot, holding a rummage sale in August and a benefit at Willie’s.

This run/walk will raise money for the Jeremy Tucker Fund.

Registration for the event is $25 before Oct. 15. The race begins at 6:30 p.m., with pre-race entertainment at 5:45, as well as post-race entertainment, at the Hot Rod Cafe, 206 S. Main, El Dorado.

Registration includes chip timing, a t-shirt and a post-race after party with a DJ until 11 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join the post-race party, during which awards will be given to the top runners, and there will be a costume contest, silent auction and door prizes.

“The thing I am looking forward to most is seeing a lot of friends and old classmates,” Toni said. “The community has been amazing and the prayers were just awesome. It was really awesome to know how many people were thinking about him and reaching out to see how they could help.”
