Project Update: Work on the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Main Street is underway and will begin to affect traffic.

Preliminary work is underway on the project to reconstruct the intersection at Sixth Avenue and Main Street.

Work on the storm sewer started at the end of this week and that will affect traffic depending on where they are working, with it changing frequently. The project will be completed in phases with this being the initial work that has to be completed.

In addition, the temporary stop lights and poles were put into place earlier this week and will go into effect later. Work will begin on the street following storm sewer work.

Depending on how the weather is and the temperatures, the project could take into the spring to complete.

The work will include widening the intersection, adding dedicated turn lanes and improving storm water runoff.

The city will pay $656,000 toward the project and the state will match that amount. The state also let the bids and will administrate the project, although the city will do most of the inspection work which will save some money.

The low bidder for the project was Cornejo & Sons. They will have 120 working days to complete the project.
