  • The Miss Augusta/Miss Butler County Pageant will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Augusta High School auditorium. Tickets are only $5 at the door.
    The event is a preliminary to the Miss Kansas and Miss America Pageants.
    Eight young ladies will be competing for crowns and scholarships. Four of the contestants were highlighted in Tuesday's Gazette and four more are featured in today's.
    Don't miss your chance to be a part of the excitement, the glitz and the glamour.
    Kayla Norton, of Syracuse, describes herself as "a Sand Dunes Adrenaline Junkie, a patient caregiver, and an aspiring photographer."
    Her platform is "Helping Kids in the Race for Life-The Carroll Shelby Foundation."
    Kelsey Phillips, of Wichita, describes herself as "a cheerleader, a health nut, and a Bling Queen."
    Her platform is "Breast Cancer Awareness."
    Manon Marcotte, of Winfield, describes herself as "Broadway bound, a dancer, and personable."
    Her platform is "The Direct Impact that the Fine Arts Have on a Community."
    Megan Zerr, of Ulysses, describes herself as "a reader, a music lover, and an aspiring doctor."
    Her platform is "Be Healthy, Be Happy: Fitness for All Ages."
    Also on stage Saturday night will be four Miss Augusta Princesses, who will be crowned with the new title-holders. The girls also enjoyed a special Princess Party with Miss Kansas Outstanding Teen, Miss Augusta Outstanding Teen, Miss Augusta, and Miss Butler County.
    The princesses are Elizabeth Priddy, Taci Klein, Mariah Schnitker, and Makenzi Schnitker.
    Always a treat at the pageant will be the talent segment in which all the contestants will showcase their particular talent.
    Ashley Ulmer will perform and dance to Bette Midler's "Stuff Like That There."
    Brianna Daily will show her vocal talent and sing Mariah Carey's "There's A Hero."
    Chelsea Chilcott will demonstrate her unique ventriloquism talent and perform to "Cowboy's Sweetheart."
    Kaile Shrode will perform a color guard routine to "Escape from the Tower."
    Kayla Norton will perform a lyrical dance to Tim McGraw's "The One That Got Away."
    Kelsey Phillips will perform a contemporary dance to "Turn Me On."
    Manon Marcotte will sing "On My Own" from Les Miserables.
    The Master of Ceremonies will be Michael Karaker and special guests will be Miss Kansas 2012 Sloane Lewis and Miss Kansas Outstanding Teen 2012 Stevie Mack.

    Sue Dodd, former director of the Miss Center City Pageant and former Miss Kansas board member, will also be one Saturday's judges.
