CLEARWATER—The Orioles freshman football team might have beaten Clearwater by more if not for the mistakenly shortened quarters.
The Orioles pounded Clearwater on way to a 44-0 blowout victory on the road. With the win, Augusta's record improves to 2-2 on the season.
The Orioles recovered turnover after turnover throughout the game as the defense smothered the Indians. Jacob Urmacher recorded a safety. Logan Weakley intercepted a pass. Kade Koltiska had one of several huge sacks for the Orioles. Even on special teams, the Orioles unintentionally recovered an onside kick.
Augusta was ahead 31-0 by halftime.
On offense, contributions were spread throughout the lineup. Jaden Shryock scored a touchdown run on a quarterback keeper up the middle. T.J. Hill scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and Chandler Nusz added a score, as well.
The Orioles look to get their first two-game winning streak of the season next week, but they'll have to beat a tough Andale team on the road. The Orioles return for a pair of home games against Ark City and Rose Hill to close out the season.
