Gerald Dean "Jerry" Abbott, 84, died peacefully at home in Ft. Myers, Fla. on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, after a brief, yet courageous battle with cancer.
A time of visitation for relatives and friends will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 6, at Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta. Services and burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta. Those attending should use the 12th St. entrance.
Jerry was born Nov. 3, 1927, in Winfield, to Cleona (Baird) and Ray Roscoe Abbott.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class, graduated from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan., and was a successful architect/contractor who owned Abbott Construction in Salina before retiring to Florida. His spirit lives on in the many original paintings he left behind as well as his love for music and books.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, stepfather Don Broomfield, stepbrother Don Broomfield Jr., and his first wife Harriet Boozell Abbott.
He leaves behind: his wife, Jan Abbott, Ft. Myers, Fla.; sister, Laresta Dunfield of Wichita; three daughters, Judy Wasko and her husband Bob, Lawrence, Kan., Christie Abbott, Naples, Fla., Kim Mansfield, Voorhees, NJ; two stepsons, Jeff Boyd, Bartlesville, Okla., and Greg Turner and his wife Janetha, Overland Park; his dog, Molly. Jerry had eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and many wonderful and loving relatives and friends.
