BUHLER—Augusta's volleyball team has struggled against Buhler in recent years, including the first time they met this season.
That wasn't the case Tuesday night at the Buhler Triangular, but in the end, the Orioles still came up a few points short.
The Crusaders won a tight first set on way to a 25-23, 19-25, 25-19 victory.
The Orioles then came on top of what can be described as their most epic set of the season in the opener against Mulvane. The two teams went back and forth until Augusta won two straight points for a 29-27 win.
The Orioles went on to win Set 2 25-20 for the sweep, finishing the night 1-1. Augusta is 2-1 on the season against Mulvane.
After a strong showing and a 5-0 record at the Mulvane tournament Saturday, Augusta has improved above .500 with a 10-9 overall record.
The Orioles are off Saturday and will return home for a pair of league matches against Andale and Collegiate at Hutter Gymnasium. The Orioles have lost once to Andale so far and have yet to face Collegiate this season.
The JV team split its matches as well. Buhler beat the Orioles in three sets, and the Orioles beat Mulvane in three sets.
Freshman volleyball go 2-1 in El Dorado
Augusta's freshman volleyball team won 2 of 3 matches last week at the El Dorado Triangular.
The Orioles defeated Wellington 25-6, 25-12 and beat Collegiate in three sets 17-25, 27-25, 25-17. El Dorado beat Augusta 25-21, 18-25, 25-14.
The Wildcats beat Collegiate and Wellington to finish 3-0. Collegiate was 1-2, Wellington 0-3.
Douglass' volleyball team splits home matches
Douglass' volleyball team lost its first match of its home triangular to Conway Springs in three sets. The Cardinals won 25-17, 23-25, 25-13.
Coach Leanne Braddy said the Bulldogs didn't play their best volleyball. They had 10 services errors and struggled with digs all match. They had a .655 digging percentage when they normally hit .800 or better.
The Bulldogs picked up their play against Wichita Independent. They only missed two serves and had 16 aces to go along with 21 kills and an .889 dig percentage. Douglass won the match 25-9, 25-20.
