Butler County Toy Run, toy and food drive planned for October 6.
Four event highlights
1 Butler County A.B.A.T.E. will be sponsoring the annual Toy Run again. The toy run was started approximately 20 years ago by Mike Linder and other A.B.A.T.E. members who wanted to help the El Dorado Police Department with the El Dorado Christmas project. A.B.A.T.E. organized the toy run until 1997 when the police department, with support of a police motorcycle organization The Blue Knights International Kansas Chapter V, took it over. They organized it until 2002. Since then the toy run has been organized by A.B.A.T.E. with the support of the county sheriffs, local police departments, businesses and the caring communities.
2 Toys and food collected are given to the Salvation Army, which distributes them to families in Butler County.
3 Participants of the run will meet at 10 a.m., departing El Dorado at 11 a.m. They will arrive in Augusta at approximately 11:25 a.m., Douglass at 11:40 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Rose Hill at about 12:40 p.m., Andover at 1 p.m., Benton at about 1:20 p.m. and back to El Dorado coming in on West Central t about 1:45 p.m. The public is encouraged to come out and see the riders as they pass through and kids can see Santa and the elves riding their motorcycles.
4 A.B.A.T.E. is a national motorcycle organization lobbying for highway safety and operators’ rights; they also provide public awareness programs for motorcycle enthusiasts. They work vigorously with other organizations like the Christian Motorcycle Association to make the community a better and safer place to live.
Why you should attend
“This organization works each year with the Salvation Army and other organizations to provide toys and food for underprivileged children at Christmas time. Through generous donations from businesses and the communities, this run will be a success.”
