  • Kalley Trebbe drew a four-leaf clover on her wrist for good luck at the girls golf team’s home invitational Monday.
Apparently it worked. Well, that and having her dad watch her play, which she said gave her confidence. Trebbe shot an impressive 43 at the Augusta Country Club to take second place overall. Trebbe and seniors Alyssa Bisagno and Olivia Cox carried the Orioles to a team title as well.
Augusta finished with a team score of 195, eight strokes ahead of second-place Maize South (203). The Mavericks’ Laine Evans won the individual title with a 9-hole of 40.
Circle’s Jayme Hughley took third with a round of 44. Sidney Gile took ninth with a score of 50 for the Thunderbirds, who took fourth (215).
Bisagno and Cox, who earned top-10 medals for the second time this season, said they played relaxed on their home course. Bisagno shot a 48 and Cox shot a 49.
“I wasn’t putting pressure on myself. I was just out there having fun,” said Bisagno.
Cox said she didn’t do well on Hole 1, but she rebounded from that the rest of the day.
“After that hole, I decided to not let it get to me. So I just tried to go forward and play better,” Cox said.
Baylee Johnston had to play through some pain. She wore a leg wrap around her right knee. Though it made things difficult for her, Johnston still gritted through and finished with a score of 55 to round out the Orioles’ team score.
Ashley Roby shot a 65 and Lyndsay Stuart shot a 66 for the Orioles.
For the most part, the Orioles took advantage of playing on their home course. But they did have the switcheroo pulled on them. The tee-off boxes for some of the holes were different than what they are used to. For the most part, the Orioles adjusted well.
As for Johnston, Augusta coach Keith Conrady said her injury might sideline her the rest of the season, and even if she can still play through her injury, it won’t be easy.
Augusta’s final two meets of the regular season are at Hesston Golf Course for the Buhler Invitational this Thursday and at Cherry Oaks for the Andale Invitational Monday, Sept. 24. The league meet is Oct. 2. Regionals is Oct. 8.
