The El Dorado Cross Country teams competed at the Wamego Country Club last Saturday.

The Wildcats had runners in every race but were only able to field a complete team for the boys varsity race.

“It’s nice to go run at Wamego. We get to compete against 4A schools, and see how we shape up against some of the other schools our size in the state,” said El Dorado head coach David Herrs.

Leading the way for the Wildcats was senior Sam Haines. Haines finished 38th overall and medaled for El Dorado.

“We did have several PRs at this meet, although all were from freshmen who were running their second high school cross country meet,” said Herrs.

Sophomore Breck Towner continued to show his improvement from last season. He has had course PRs by over a minute in both meets this season. Freshman Trey Duran continues to show improvement as well.

“It was encouraging to see so many varsity boys set course PRs. I feel like we’re showing improvement. We are able to accomplish something we’ve not done before,” said Herrs. “I continue to see upside in our boys’ varsity squad. We’re not yet at a level at which we think we can be, but I think we can get there as the season progresses.”

For the Lady Wildcats, Faith Hadley finished 55th out of 93 runners with a time of 18:35. Morgan Greene was 57th in the JV race and had a PR by 3:39.

“We had a very good week of practice this week. I think this showed in our results. I hope we can continue to progress week to week,” said Herrs.

The Wildcats travel to compete at Buhler today.
