  • Joseph R. McAllister, 74, of El Dorado, died Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.

  • Joseph R. McAllister, 74, of El Dorado, died Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado. Cremation will proceed the service.
    He was born on June 19, 1938 in Cortland, Ind., the son of Oran and Mary (Mounts) McAllister. He graduated from Burns High School and served in the United States Army. He was a foreman for Kansas Gas Service. On June 1, 1962, he was married to Ora J. Wentworth in a ceremony at the First Christian Church in El Dorado.
    He was a member of the VFW, Elks Lodge and Fun Seekers Camping Club. He enjoyed traveling, collecting rocks, loved the mountains, trout fishing and especially being with the grandchildren.
    Those who survive including his wife Jody of the home are: his children, Scott and Kelly McAllister of El Dorado, Todd and Lori McAllister of Knoxville, Tenn., Casey and Connie McAllister of Augusta and Becky and Jeff Sparks of El Dorado; sisters, Marilyn King and husband Willard of Potwin, Colleen Friederick of Manhattan, June Ratts of Heyworth, Ill., and Crystal Blackmore of Eudora; brothers, Allen McAllister and wife Corrine of Potwin and Robert McAllister and Pat Jeffreys of Newton; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
    He was preceded in death by a brother, Grover “Butch.”
