  • Although the weather is still on the warm side, signs of autumn are here - the nights are getting cool, the leaves are just about to start changing colors and football has arrived and with it, homecoming. It is time for the Orioles to return to their roots and 11 classes will be honored this year.
    An entire week will be filled with special homecoming events leading up to class reunions and the homecoming football game. This year's theme is Three Cheers for Orioles!
    Monday, Sept. 24: Paint the Town Day - Augusta High School students will be painting the town orange and black. Spirit yard signs will also be put on display around town.
    Tuesday, Sept. 25: includes the following AHS sporting events: Girls varsity tennis tournament at 3 p.m., varsity volleyball triangular at 5 p.m., and boys varsity soccer at 6 p.m.
    Thursday, Sept. 27: School Pride Day - varsity cross country at 4 p.m., Community Tailgate Party at AHS parking lot at 6 p.m., Community Pep Rally and Powder Puff game, Hillier Stadium at 7 p.m.
    Friday, Sept. 28: Orange & Black Day - Homecoming coronation at Hillier Stadium at 6:30 p.m., Orioles vs. Andale football game at 7 p.m., AHS student homecoming dance at 9 p.m.
    Saturday, Sept. 29: Loop the Lake Walk/Fun Run at the City Lake, 7:30 a.m., Augusta Fest Spirit Parade downtown at 10 a.m., and Yesteryear Fair at the Historic Museum, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    The AHS Honor Classes this year are: 1957, 1962, 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007. (See Page 4 for more reunion information).
