On Friday at 5 p.m., Butler County will officially launch its new Web site, www.bucoks.com. Designed by the government Web site experts at CivicPlus, the new site reflects the personality of Butler County while incorporating a host of new and improved features and tools designed to help residents and visitors quickly locate the information and services they need.
The new homepage is easy to navigate and breaks down information for residents, businesses and visitors. An “I want to” search feature takes citizens directly to specific information while interactive online forms allow citizens to complete Butler County business without ever leaving home. Reporting a concern or requesting information from the Butler County also is easier than ever. Visitors simply click the Questions/Concerns tab at the top of every page to access an online submissions form.
“The Web site is our central hub of communications. It allows people to do business online and find the information they need at their convenience. It’s an excellent way to build good relationships with citizens and to make visitors feel welcome,” said Will Johnson, Butler County administrator. “The new design allows us to present timely information in a smart and efficient way, whether that information is department-based or service-based. Our Web site also plays an important role in emergency and disaster planning. Alert Center and News Flash features allow us to provide critical information to residents instantly. The new site is a powerful tool for keeping our citizens engaged and informed in good times and bad.”
In addition to emergency information, a new “Notify Me” option on the homepage allows visitors to sign up to receive alerts from specific departments about special events, bids, public meetings, job opportunities and a variety of other city/county activities. Citizens may choose to be notified via email or mobile phone text message.
Other features and functionality of the new Butler County Web site include clickable interactive maps and a centralized location to store and view meeting agendas and minutes.
Using the CivicPlus Government Content Management System, Butler County staff can maintain every aspect of the Web site from pages to online forms, news announcements to a searchable archive center. It also allows the Butler County’s website administrator to delegate site maintenance to staff in individual departments, a process that improves staff efficiency and ensures every corner of the website remains up-to-date with the most current information.
“CivicPlus goes beyond typical government websites to create powerful, easy-to-use community engagement systems that connect people with government in new, more efficient ways,” said Ward Morgan, CEO of CivicPlus. “Butler County officials have much information to share and technology keeps expanding the ways people can receive that information; that’s why CivicPlus service includes free software upgrades to make sure your community remains in the forefront of Web site functionality.”
