Dear Mr. Bowlus,
I read your article of Aug. 28 on football. I am sending you a picture of the El Dorado football team of 1946.
You notice the absence of face guards. I didn't play football, but I can't remember any serious injuries in a game.
The players tackled to bring an opponent down, not to injure them. I also remember that basketball was basically a non-contact game, and only four fouls per game. Basketball is as rough as football now, and to me, less interesting. Most teams now would foul out in the first quarter.
