The El Dorado High School combined junior varsity and freshmen football squads defeated Garden Plain’s sub varsity 34 to 32 Tuesday night at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
“We were very proud of how our kids performed this evening,” said El Dorado head coach Dustin Dooley. “The coaches did a great job calling the game and handling personnel changes. With two full squads substituting in and out it can be a difficult task and our coaches were organized during this process.”
El Dorado was led offensively by strong running from quarterback Garrett Howland and running backs Alec Hildreth and Kody Melugin.
El Dorado’s passing attack was volatile as freshmen quarterback Brandon Triboletti and his twin brother Matt Triboletti at receiver connected on several long passes.
Defensively El Dorado saw strong performances by sophomores Ryan Foster, Jacobb Burnett and freshman Aaron Cortez.
Garden Plain is the #1 ranked 3A team in the state at the varsity level.
“Several players played well and we are improving on a day by day basis. I was extremely proud of our special teams performance. We had a blocked punt for a touchdown, as well as a kickoff return for a touchdown. We also had several nice punts and several long kickoffs. I was much more pleased with our special teams tonight than last Friday,” said Dooley.
The El Dorado varsity will play Clearwater Friday night at 7 p.m. at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
Next Monday the El Dorado freshmen and JV squads travel to Clearwater for a split squad game. Freshmen begin at 5 p.m. and JV at 6:30 p.m.
