Douglass' home opener against Sunrise came down to one play.

Douglass rallied with two touchdowns to take a 22-14 lead from Sunrise Christian in the fourth quarter during Friday night's game. Sunrise eventually answered back with a touchdown of its own to pull within two points. The game's fate would be decided on the ensuing two-point conversion. Sunrise quarterback Zach Howell couldn't get the pass to connect, and Douglass held on for a 22-20 win Friday night. The Bulldogs were behind 14-8 at halftime, and neither team scored in the third quarter. But the Bulldogs' put together two possessions that led to 1-yard TD runs by Drew Chadic. The Bulldogs converted the first two-point try to take a 16-14 lead. The second two-point try failed, leaving Sunrise with a chance to tie before the Bulldogs came out with the win. In the first quarter, Sunrise took a 6-0 lead after a 47-yard TD run and a failed conversion. The Bulldogs answered with a drive capped by a one-yard score by John Gardner Avery McNelly scored the two-point try for an 8-6 Bulldog lead. In the second quarter, Howell connected on a 23-yard TD pass, then on the two-point try for a 14-8 lead. Howell completed 25 of 50 pass attempts for 201 yards and the pair of scores. Douglass' offense came strictly on the ground. Chadic led the Bulldogs with 150 yards on 41 carries. McNelly had 54 yards on eight carries. Ethan Savoy had 26 yards on nine carries. In all, Douglass ran the ball 70 times for 228 yards. Douglass (1-1) plays at Medicine Lodge next week.
