Forecasters are now calling for the possibility of Severe Thunderstorms as our work week comes to an end. A strong cold front will be surging southeast across Kansas, bringing with it increasing chances of thunderstorms. Those storms are expected in our area during the Thursday night/Friday time frame. Some of these storms could possibly be severe. While up to nickel-sized hail may accompany the storms, the main threat should come from winds near 60 mph. Local forecasters’ note in this morning’s Area Forecast Discussion: “Friday may be quite active, so stay tuned.” By Friday evening, strong thunderstorms with gusts 40 to 50 mph will be possible for areas along and east of the Kansas Turnpike.
