The Lady Wildcats tennis team returns this fall with varsity experience in 2012.
"We have five returning starters and lost one to graduation from our 2011 squad," said El Dorado head coach Kent Kunkel.
The returning Lady Wildcat starters are Lauren Eustice, Kayla Barrett, Katy Randall, Morgan Limon and Maddy Armstrong.
"Eustice played primarily singles while the other four played doubles. This year I'd like to switch them around a little more to give each an opportunity to do both," said Kunkel.
Barrett, Randall and Limon are all seniors and bring in three year's experience at the high school level of play, each having played since they were freshmen.
"This will be the first year out of my four years as coach that everyone has to compete for limited varsity spots," said Kunkel. "We also had a pretty successful JV season with most of the girls returning."
For the Wildcats, attendance at summer camp was decent and the Wildcat netters wanted to continue playing each week until school started, which for program growth was a very positive and progressive sign.
"We have 16 girls out so far and I am hoping that more will join after school begins," said Kunkel.
Out of the 16, seven are incoming freshmen which is a indicator of a growing EMS program.
"We don't have much time to practice as our first JV meet is next Tuesday which is also the first day for our freshmen," said Kunkel.
The Lady Wildcats first varsity meet will be Aug. 25 at Independence.
