Virginia Faye Bennett died Friday, Aug. 17 at the age of 87 years. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, El Dorado. Interment will be in Bella Vista Cemetery.
Virginia was born in El Dorado on March 7, 1925 to Murry and Bess (Jarnagin) McCormick. She was a graduate of El Dorado High School, Butler County College and the University of Oklahoma. Following graduation from OU University, she was a reporter for the Daily Oklahoman and Oklahoma City Times for three years. She returned to college at Emporia State and received her master’s degree in education and taught at Grandview and Lincoln schools for 25 years until her retirement. Virginia was a member of the First United Methodist Church; United Methodist Women; Butler County Retired Teachers; Alpha Delta Kappa; “I Can Read” volunteer at Jefferson School; W.M.B. Sr.; SBA Hospital Auxiliary; SBA Hospital Gift Shop Volunteer; and Life Enrichment.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles Murry McCormick; and sister.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Wall and husband Brian of Leawood, Kan.; a son, David Bennett of El Dorado; and granddaughters, Stephanie Shaffer and husband Josh of Kansas City and Kelsey Wall of Leawood.
