On Saturday evening, citizens of Andover who were in the area of Andover Road and U.S. Highway 54 may have seen what appeared to be an episode of “COPS.” However, it was the Andover Police Department and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office making some narcotic trafficking arrests.
This joint operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals from the Wichita area. Two of the individuals were arrested for the sale of a controlled substance. The other individual was arrested for drug possession. One of the individuals was a gang member in the Wichita area.
The narcotics seized were heroin, cocaine and marijuana.
According to Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet, the recent increase of heroin in the area is a concern to local law enforcement. Heroin is typically an East coast or West coast product.
"Seeing this type of narcotic making an appearance in the area should be a concern to everyone," Herzet said. "We had two individuals who had overdosed on heroin about a year ago. If not for the quick intervention of Butler County Emergency Medical Services, these two individuals could have died from the use of heroin."
Those arrested were: Michael Dwayne Perkins, 30, of Wichita, who was arrested for the sale of heroin; Wilfred Peter Kosits, 49, of Wichita, who was arrested for the sale of cocaine; Robert Leon Reed, 27, of Wichita, who was arrested for possession of marijuana after a previous conviction.
