John W. (Dub) Odil, 75, of Towanda, died Tuesday, July 31 at St. Francis Harry Hynes Hospice. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Towanda United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Towanda Cemetery.
John was born on July 22, 1937 to J. Wilbur and Eula (Davis ) Odil, Sr., in Boonville, Mo. The family moved to Wichita in 1948 from Yuma, Ariz., where he graduated from Wichita West High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army and then worked for Utility Contractors, Inc. for 27 year, the last 10 years as construction foreman. He was also foreman for George M. Myers, Inc. of El Dorado and Herzog Contracting Corp. of St. Joseph, Mo. In 1990, he began driving for D & D Equipment Sales & Rentals, delivering construction equipment to contractors throughout the state.
John was a member of Towanda United Methodist Church, enjoyed woodworking and was a fan of Star Trek.
He was married to Pauline Harold of McPherson on Sept. 3, 1981 in Lyons, Kan. She preceded him in death on June 13, 2007.
Those who survive are: his children, Carly Hoffman of Towanda and Dani and Ray DuPont of Eustis, Fla.; a sister, Judy Wright and husband Keith of Hutchinson; four grandchildren, Cara Anthony, Kurt DuPont, and Jill Bolen, Ryan DuPont; 11 great-grandchildren; and his best friends, Barbara and Jim Brush.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; his parents; and a grandson, Lance.
