Allan M. Firman, III, 32, of Augusta was recently charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The crime reportedly occurred March 30 in Sedgwick County.
This case was a joint operation by the Butler County Sheriff's Office, the Drug Enforcement Agency Task Force and the Augusta Department of Public Safety.
According to Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet, the number of meth labs has decreased in the county in part because of the Matt Samuels Act, which requires individuals to produce photo identification in order to purchase cold medicine containing ephedrine and pseudoephedrine. Ephedrine and pseudoephedrine are key ingredients used in manufacturing meth.
Herzet also noted the increase in meth being smuggled into the United States from Mexico has made law enforcement officers' jobs more difficult.
He also encourages everyone to lock their vehicles and homes to protect against those trying to support their drug habit by stealing.
