Lindsey Taylor Colling, daughter of Susan Brecht and Mike Brecht, of Wichita, was among 204 students from the U.S. and Canada chosen to receive an academic scholarship from the Fred and Mary Koch Foundation for the 2012-13 academic year.

A 2012 graduate of Andover Central High School, Colling is the daughter of an employee of Koch Fertilizer LLC. She will be attending Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Scholarships are awarded yearly to applicants demonstrating a strong academic record, extracurricular involvement, leadership and service. The recipients, all of whom are dependents of current or former employees of Koch Industries Inc. or its wholly owned subsidiaries in the U.S. and Canada, are selected by an independent panel of judges with expertise in the field of education.

The academic scholarship program was initiated in 1970 by the Fred and Mary Koch Foundation for dependents of Koch employees. Since that time, more than $3 million in scholarships have been awarded.

Established in 1953, the Fred and Mary Koch Foundation focuses its resources on not-for-profit organizations in Kansas that significantly enhance the state’s quality of life through arts and arts education, environmental stewardship, human services, enablement of at-risk youth, and education.
