  • Mr. Spencer, of Emporia, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Newman Regional Health Center. He was 86. He was born Janu. 31, 1926 in Dallas, Texas, the son of Walter J. & Ernestine (Mosher) Spencer.
    Walt graduated from Emporia High School in 1947. He was married to Dixie Lee Roecker on June 10, 1956. She preceded him in death on March 13, 1986. He married Wilma M. Webb Brough on April 4, 1992. She survives. He had farmed and been a truck driver. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Emporia and sang in the church choir for many years.
    He was the Sertoma Club Man of the Year in 2009. Walt is survived by his wife; a brother, Albert Spencer of Westmoreland, Kan.; a sister, Doris Danford of Strong City, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John “Jack” Spencer; and three sisters, Mary Spencer Schade, Alta Spencer Strboya and Juanita Spencer Donelson.
    Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Charter Funerals, 501 W. 6th Ave., Emporia. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Christian Church, 202 E. 12th Ave., Emporia. A graveside service is planned for 2:30 p.m. Monday at Blankenship Cemetery, Rosalia.
