The ban on open burning initiated July 19 by Andover Fire Department Chief Jim Shaver continues until further notice. This ban affects all locations within the fire jurisdiction of Andover Fire and Rescue. Existing valid open-burn permits are suspended, pending the lifting of the burn restriction.
Hot and dry conditions persist across the area, and the fire danger continues to be very high. Fires will be difficult to control and will be capable of growing very quickly.
Open-burning restrictions apply to waste vegetation – brush, grass, etc. – as well as combustible household waste. Citizens are encouraged to dispose of these waste types in another approved manner.
The use of chimineas, barbecue grills and the like are not restricted at this time. The use of these type devices should be conducted with extreme caution and with fire extinguishing materials on hand.
