Matt Robertson, Josh Stone and Gil Rehwinkel held the Salina Bluejays scoreless for eight innings; and El Dorado finally got its offense in gear as the Broncos won its NBC Midwest Regional opener 6-2 Saturday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
After allowing two runs in the opening frame to Salina, the Broncos added two of their own in the bottom half of the first to make the game all-square.
Tied 2-2, El Dorado stole a run in the fourth inning.
With runners at the corners, Andrew Perez got caught in a rundown and Thomas Henk came home to score during the rundown. Perez wound up at second base.
David Morgan was hit by a pitch in the eighth and scored on a safety squeeze by David Harris.
The Broncos added two in the eighth. Mitch Osburn walked, and Perez and Thomas Clay singled. Osburn scored on a wild pitch and Perez scored on a Tyler Coughenour single.
In the sixth, Salina's Jordan Bain opened with a single. He was thrown out at the plate by centerfielder Thomas Clay, perserving El Dorado's 3-2 lead. On that play, Clay establish a Broncos’ outfield assist record with his seventh this season.
El Dorado played Monday night against the Haysville Heat.
